Rapunzel Coloring Pages
Rapunzel was named after a leafy salad plant, the one her mother craved so badly that her father climbed into the enchantress's garden next door to steal some. That's how the story starts in the Grimm brothers' version, though a French tale called Persinette told almost the same story more than a hundred years earlier.

Detailed Rapunzel Coloring Page
This one is for older kids and grown-ups who like a page they can settle into. The Grimm brothers say Rapunzel's hair was as fine as spun gold, and here it ripples down in long waves tangled with blossoms, with plenty of room for patient shading.
Dame Gothel, the Enchantress
Dame Gothel is the enchantress who kept Rapunzel locked away. Her name comes from an old German word for godmother, which is a funny thing to call someone who shuts a girl in a tower with no door. In her own controlling way she did look after Rapunzel, and she climbed up those long braids every single day to visit.
Her secret lasted for years, right up until Rapunzel let something slip. Without thinking, she asked why Dame Gothel was so much harder to pull up than the prince. That was the end of the visits, and the end of Rapunzel's beautiful long hair too, because Gothel grabbed her scissors and snipped off the braids on the spot.
