Dancing with the Stars Coloring Pages

by Leanne Guenther
Last Updated:

I love Dancing with the Stars, and my husband has become a bit hooked too. We've taken ballroom lessons more times than I can count. I'm six feet tall and he's 5'8", which isn't what anyone would pick for a ballroom couple and we're still terrible at it (and have great fun).

Maybe that's why my favourite part of the show is watching someone who's nervous, or who doesn't look like a dancer, get up and give it a go anyway.

The images on the page are fairly realistic because that style of drawing shows the dance a little better, if you're looking for cartoon style images for kids, I have those too!

Ballroom Dances

The ballroom dances are the smooth ones. Couples stay in a hold the whole way through while gowns and tailcoats sweep across the floor.

Waltz

The waltz looks like the couple is floating, but there's a lot going on underneath. On every count of one-two-three they rise up onto their toes and sink back down, like a boat bobbing on gentle waves. Big skirts are part of the fun, since every turn sends them swirling.

Foxtrot

A good foxtrot should look like a stroll, just a very fancy one. The couple glides along in long, smooth steps to a slow, quick, quick rhythm. The trick is making something this hard look easy, and that's tougher than it sounds.

Quickstep

The quickstep is the foxtrot's speedy cousin. Couples skip and run around the floor so fast their feet barely seem to touch it, while their arms stay in a perfect frame. It's tiring just to watch, and audiences love it.

Latin Dances

The Latin dances are faster and flashier, with sharp hips and lots of moments where the partners break apart.

Paso Doble

The paso doble tells the story of a bullfight. The man plays the proud matador, and his partner often becomes his cape, swirling around him while he stamps and strikes poses. It's the most dramatic dance on the show, and big smiles get swapped for fierce stares.

Cha Cha

The cha cha is named after the sound of the dancers' feet doing the quick little triple step in every bar: cha-cha-cha! Fringe is a favourite for cha cha costumes, because every snap of the hips sends it flying.

Salsa

Salsa is the party dance of the bunch. It's fast and playful, full of spins under raised arms, and on the show it often brings out the big lifts and tricks too.

The only Latin dance I've ever taken lessons on is the bachata which is kind of salsa-like.

Ballroom Dancing coloring pages

Long before it was the elegant dance you see on the show, the waltz was considered shocking, because partners held each other so close! My ballroom dance coloring page section tells where each dance came from, with cartoon dancers doing the tango, the jive, the Charleston and more...
