Mr. Potato Head is a toy that never looks the same twice. The ears, nose, moustache, hat and shoes all pop on and off a plain potato body, so every kid ends up with a different face. These pages start with a bare potato and work up to a few dressed-up ones, including Mrs. Potato Head.

A Little Potato Head History
The first Mr. Potato Head didn't come with a potato. The box held plastic eyes, ears, a nose, a moustache and a hat, and you pushed them into a real potato from your own kitchen. It came out in 1952 and it was the first toy ever advertised on TV. Mrs. Potato Head joined him a year later.
Real potatoes don't last, so in 1964 a plastic body came in the box instead. Today the parts still pop into holes in the body, which means the ears can go on the feet and the nose can go on the back. There's no wrong way to put a potato together.
