Ice-type Pokémon are among the rarest in the Pokémon world, with only about 60 known species (counting alternate forms and Mega Evolutions can change the total slightly). Many Ice-types have strong defensive stats, but they often have multiple type weaknesses to watch out for. Some are inspired by Arctic animals like seals and yaks, while others take inspiration from mythical or magical creatures.
In Generations 1–3, all Ice-type moves were categorized as Special.
