Owl Coloring Pages
Welcome to my Owl coloring pages section!
Owls are intriguing nocturnal birds known for their unique abilities. They can rotate their heads up to 270 degrees, thanks to their special bone structure and circulation. With large, forward-facing eyes, owls have excellent night vision for hunting in the dark. Their silent flight, a result of specially designed wing feathers, makes them stealthy hunters. Beyond their skills, owls are symbols of wisdom in many cultures, adding to their mystery and appeal.

Owl Species
Barn Owls
A barn owl's heart-shaped face works like a satellite dish and funnels the tiniest rustle straight to its ears. Color the back a soft golden brown with grey freckles and leave the face and belly nearly white. Want to know how it catches a mouse in total darkness.
Great Grey Owls
The great grey owl looks enormous but most of that is fluff! Under all those feathers it's much smaller than it seems. Use soft greys for the body and draw rings around the face like ripples in a pond with yellow eyes in the middle.
Great Horned Owls
Those horns aren't horns at all! They're just tufts of feathers, and they aren't ears either. Color this owl mottled brown and grey with a white patch at the throat and a rusty-orange face, then add big yellow eyes. So what are the tufts for.Great horned owl coloring pages
Snowy Owls
Most owls sleep all day but not the snowy owl! It hunts in daylight across the Arctic tundra. Leave most of the paper white and add dark bars with a sharp grey pencil, then give it bright yellow eyes. Ready for a chilly adventure.
Preschool and Easy Owls
Big simple shapes and thick lines are easier for little hands. You'll find letter and vocabulary pages here too, plus a dotted line worksheet for tracing practice.

Cute and Cartoon Owls
Sleepy owls, winking owls and big-eyed chibi owls are the silly side of the family. A purple owl hot air balloon is one of the most memorable hot air balloons I've ever seen!
Realistic Owls
Take your time with these and build up the feather colors slowly with a sharp pencil. Barred owls have dark brown eyes, which is unusual since most owls have yellow ones.
Owl Coloring Pages for Adults
Autumn leaves, winter snow and lots of tiny details. Put on some music and take your time.
Owls in Mythology and Folklore
Athena's Owl (Greek Mythology)
Athena's bird was the little owl, a small owl with fierce-looking eyebrows that still lives all over Greece. Scientists liked the connection so much that its official name is Athene noctua, which means "Athena of the night." So how did the goddess of wisdom end up with an owl in the first place.
The Strix (Roman Legend)
The Romans had a much less friendly owl in their stories. The strix was a screeching night bird said to visit nurseries after dark, and sometimes it was really a witch in disguise. Luckily, one goddess knew exactly how to keep it away.
Witches, Wizards and Their Owls
In storybooks, witches and wizards love to keep an owl around, whether it's a wise helper perched by the cauldron or a messenger flapping off into the night with a letter. Owls didn't land that job by accident. There's a good reason they fit so well with Halloween.
The Old Woman of the Night (Scottish Folklore)
In Scottish Gaelic, one old word for an owl is cailleach-oidhche, which means "old woman of the night." It's easy to see why, since a hunched-up owl with its feathers fluffed out looks a lot like a grandmother wrapped in a shawl. And the Gaels had one very famous old woman in their stories.
