Celtic Sprite Coloring Pages

Sprite is a catch-all word for a small, quick spirit, the kind you might spot flickering over a stream or hiding in the leaves. It comes from the same old word as "spirit," and it doesn't belong to one single creature.

Little Folk of the Celtic Lands

In the Celtic countries the little nature spirits go by lots of different names. In Cornwall they're pixies, and anyone who got lost on a path they knew well said they'd been "pixie-led." In Wales they're the Tylwyth Teg, "the fair family." In Scotland the brownies help around the house at night, as long as you don't try to thank them with a gift of clothes, because that sends them packing.

Any of them could be the sprite in your picture. If you're looking for the taller, grander kind of faery, you'll find them on the Sidhe coloring pages.

Puck (Robin Goodfellow)

Puck is the troublemaker of the sprite world, an English spirit who loves a good prank and goes by the name Robin Goodfellow when he's feeling friendly. Shakespeare gave him his most famous job, stirring up mischief in A Midsummer Night's Dream...
